artist statement

I create paintings that embrace imperfection, transformation, and the unseen layers of experience. My work is deeply influenced by Wabi-Sabi, the Japanese philosophy that finds beauty in imperfection and impermanence, and Kintsugi, the art of mending broken ceramics with gold to highlight, rather than hide, their history. These ideas resonate with me not only aesthetically but also on a personal level—I see them as metaphors for resilience, healing, and the inner light that emerges through life’s fractures.

Texture is at the heart of my process. I build my paintings slowly, layer by layer, using acrylic, charcoal, and precious metals such as gold and silver leaf. My Light Within series embodies this approach, inspired by Leonard Cohen’s words: “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.” The rusted undertones, peeling surfaces, and luminous accents in my work reflect the idea that beauty comes from embracing imperfection rather than striving for an unattainable ideal. Similarly, my Entente Cordiale series explores the conversation between different aspects of the psyche, highlighting the tension and harmony within the self.

Art, for me, is both a meditation and a journey of discovery. Each piece takes time to mature, sometimes requiring ten to forty layers before it fully reveals itself. My paintings are meant to be experienced slowly, inviting viewers to look beyond the surface and engage with their own emotions and memories.

I believe creativity is an innate force within all of us, a means of self-exploration and healing. Through my work, I hope to offer spaces of contemplation—where imperfections are celebrated, transformation is honored, and light emerges from within.
